Living with the wind in your sails - Dubrovnik Regatta 2014
“Salty breeze, swaying trees, ocean waves, lazy days, sun kissed hair, fresh summer air, take me there.” The sight of almost a hundred white sails in full flight gliding over the turquoise Adriatic is one that fills the soul with romance and adventure. The flutter as the sail is raised, ropes straining, the whoosh as the wind fills the sail and the whisk as natures power releases the yacht. With sailors battling against the elements and competitors to secure first place, nature and man in perfect harmony, an unforgettable experience.
From the 10th to the 12th of October the city will be on the nautical map as the 2014 Dubrovnik Regatta attracts sailors from all over the country. Last year ninety-three sailors took part in this regional regatta for optimist class yachts. This three-day regatta is organised by one of the oldest yacht clubs in Dubrovnik, the Orsan Yacht Club, a club with over eighty years of tradition. Formed in community and for the community this symbol of yachting in Dubrovnik organises the Dubrovnik Regatta every year.
The Dubrovnik Regatta is the envy of most of the country, not only is it attended by sailors from all over the region but it is held in one of the most glorious and picturesque stretches of water in the Adriatic Sea. The Kolocep Channel runs between the Elaphite Islands and the shoreline, offering almost guaranteed winds and shelter from the open seas. The sails will be full and billowing as the yachts sped down the channel and guests of Sun Gardens, Dubrovnik will have ringside seats to this nautical event. The Kolocep Channel is literally on the doorstep of the resort, a true room with a view as the regatta steams past over the three days of the regatta.
