Many of the best nightclubs in Dubrovnik revolve around the Adriatic, taking full advantage of the gorgeous sunsets and clear waters. Come sundown, the beach clubs put on their party clothes and invite internationally renowned DJ’s to spin a tune. Music is big in Croatia; the scene is lively and varied, and although only recently established, it’s rapidly growing. Classical music and opera are given as much attention as the house and dance music that the city’s clubs offer, especially during the famed Summer Festival.
Two of the finest beach clubs which sashay into nighttime fun and dancing are listed here, but as Dubrovnik’s party crowd grows so will the ‘it’ places. Banje beach is home to East-West, a whitewashed and minimal chic, dancing heaven. By day a glamorous haven for lunch and fresh seafood, its views across the water to the city walls are divine. Boats bob in the ocean and some partygoers arrive by speedboat from their moorings a mile or so from the club. The fantastic and sunny lunch terrace transforms into a rooftop lounge by night, serving up visiting film stars, musicians and models with delicious cocktails until well after dawn. Music is varied, but the general vibe is beach-y house music, getting louder as the stars rise up from the sea to twinkle on the rooftop dancing. Ask around for the after parties at daybreak as the club closes, often in luxurious villas outside of Dubrovnik or a short boat ride away on one of the outlying islands. The best choice for a late night club, warm sea zephyrs and a heady dose of young glamour.
In the summer of 2012, Gils, a Dubrovnik institution, became known as 360º (reopening March 21st 2013) perhaps referring to the beautiful views afforded by its location, nestled in the battlements of the old city walls and reaching across the harbour. There are some late parties here, but the fun usually winds down at 1am, last drinks at midnight. Adjoining the club, it’s worthwhile checking out the French fusion food that head chef and manager Jeffrey Vella conjures up for his guests. Sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine is the main influence with the emphasis on seafood. Be prepared to wait however, as 360º has a no reservations policy. A place to see and be seen, 360º is a very grown up affair; kick back, enjoy a bottle of champagne and watch the beautiful people at Croatia’s answer to a Riviera VIP club.
