On Saturday, May 2nd, our resort once again hosted the 4th International Firefighters’ Race – Memorial “Goran Komlenac”, an event that continues to grow year after year, bringing together sport, community spirit, and a meaningful humanitarian purpose.
The race was officially opened by the Mayor of Dubrovnik, Mato Franković, together with the family of Goran Komlenac, in whose memory the event is held. In his opening remarks, he spoke about Goran’s courage and selflessness and the importance of keeping his memory alive.
The programme started in the morning with the youngest participants, who raced in different age categories and brought real enthusiasm and energy to the day. The firefighters’ youth categories were particularly encouraging, highlighting the role of sport in passing on values of teamwork, responsibility, and solidarity.
The main race for firefighters and civilians followed, covering a total distance of 4 kilometres. The route formed two loops, running from the Oak Tree through the resort promenade and towards the final residences, giving participants a unique chance to race along the coastline.
The atmosphere throughout the day was relaxed and positive. A DJ contributed to the energy on site, while the resort provided refreshments for all participants. Volunteers supported the event in many ways, including T-shirt sales, and played an important role in keeping everything running smoothly. Along the route, runners were cheered on by resort guests and visitors, adding to the sense of community.
The event carries a strong humanitarian purpose. All funds raised are donated to the “Tata je Tata” association, which provides scholarships for students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds across the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
The race is organized by the Amateur Sports Association Lopud, with the support of local partners and the community. For us, being part of initiatives like this is a meaningful part of our approach to sustainability – not only in environmental terms, but also in supporting the community we are part of. We are glad to support projects that bring people together, encourage solidarity, and leave a positive impact beyond the event itself.
