A Visit to Trsteno Arboretum for International Biodiversity Day

On May 22, Sun Gardens Dubrovnik marked International Biodiversity Day with a special outing to the Trsteno Arboretum, one of the oldest Renaissance gardens in this part of Europe.

Complimentary transfers were arranged for guests, allowing for a relaxed visit and an opportunity to experience one of the region’s unique botanical sites.

Trsteno Arboretum, established in the late 15th century, is not only a peaceful retreat filled with Mediterranean and exotic plant life, but also a living record of biodiversity. The Arboretum’s rich collection of trees, shrubs, and herbs reflects centuries of cultivation and conservation. With species sourced from different corners of the world, it serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the importance of maintaining plant diversity in the face of environmental change.

Guests enjoyed a leisurely stroll through shaded paths, taking in views of ancient plane trees, stone pavilions, and a historic aqueduct that still brings water to the gardens. The visit offered a quiet moment to reflect on the variety and resilience of plant life and its role in supporting broader ecological balance.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us for this year’s Biodiversity Day visit. While the experience was simple in form, it was a meaningful way to reconnect with nature and appreciate the importance of protecting green spaces—both for today and for the future.
