For the 77th time, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival will bring together more than 70 performances across theatre, classical music, dance and folklore, set against the city’s most atmospheric historic locations, including the Rector’s Palace, Fort Lovrjenac and the island of Lokrum.
With the traditional raising of the Libertas flag accompanied by the verses of Ivan Gundulić’s Hymn to Liberty in front of the Church of St Blaise on 10 July, the 77th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will officially open. Taking place from 10 July to 25 August, the Festival will present a rich programme of drama, music, dance, folklore and other cultural events over the course of 47 days.
This year’s programme will feature major theatre productions staged across Dubrovnik’s iconic open-air venues, including the premiere of Marin Držić’s The Miser, Shakespeare’s Richard III at Fort Lovrjenac, Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea on the island of Lokrum, and Vojnović’s Equinox at the evocative Posat Slipway. Alongside the drama programme, audiences can also enjoy numerous classical concerts in the atmospheric Rector’s Palace Atrium, with performances by leading musicians including Joshua Bell, David Fray, and David Khrikuli, throughout the summer season.
The Dubrovnik Summer Festival offers a rare opportunity to experience world-class theatre, music and dance within the extraordinary atmosphere of the Old City. As Dubrovnik’s streets, fortresses and squares transform into open-air stages, the Festival creates an unforgettable blend of culture, history and summer evenings by the Adriatic, making it one of the region’s most remarkable cultural events.
