Although the Adriatic Sea has often been recognized as one of the cleanest in the world, it would be misleading to assume it is entirely free of waste. Stretching along Croatia’s stunning coastline, the Adriatic is not only a source of natural beauty but also a vital ecosystem that supports countless marine species and sustains local communities. Protecting it requires constant care and collective responsibility.
Maritimo Recycling, a local non-profit organization in Dubrovnik Croatia, is dedicated to a cleaner future by removing harmful materials and empowering and educating local communities. They engage in sea clean-ups, collect and recycle waste, and even design machines for a cleaner future.
Their featured product are Floaties – sunglasses handcrafted from 10 plastic caps collected from the Adriatic Sea and local households. Just like the caps once found floating in the sea, these sunglasses float too.
At Sun Gardens Dubrovnik, we believe that every small step can create a ripple of change. That’s why we partnered with Maritimo Recycling, whose mission is to transform waste into something meaningful. For our upcoming fam trips, we chose their ‘Floaties’ sunglasses as a special gift for our visiting agents. More than just a souvenir from Dubrovnik, these sunglasses carry a story - a reminder that what once polluted the sea can be reshaped into something beautiful, practical, and full of purpose.
